Our kitchen cabinets were built by Salvatore Cannizzaro, the second owner of B&W Courtyards. We’re only the fourth owners of the property, which was built in 1854. The detailing matches some other building in woodwork in other rooms. Mr Cannizzaro emigrated from Sicily in the early 20th century. Ponchatoula strawberries are only grown by a handful of farms across Lake Ponchartrain - north of New Orleans. These delicious berries are only available in South Louisiana - they’re too fragile to truck long distances. Last night we braved the Chewbacchus hordes on Frenchmen Street to catch the David Torkanowski Quartet at Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro. With Torkanowski on piano, Derek Douget on tenor and soprano saxophones, Jasen Stewart on bass, and Shannon Powell, the Tremé King, on drums, cymbals and tambourine. They played mostly New Orleans modern jazz standards - Ellis Marsalis, James Black, with a Herbie Hancock tune or two for lagniappe.
